On the Davis, as all naval ships, the men
were placed into groups, according to their expertise. The chiefs were
their bosses. Each chief had his own area of responsibility. For us
landlubbers and shipmates once or twice or even thrice removed, the
forecastle of a ship, also sometimes referred to as the fo'c's'le, is
the front of the ship.
On the back or "fantail", Captain Frederick
Lincoln stands for his picture opportunity. Captain Lincoln was
genuinely beloved and idolized by every crewmember that I ever met. Read
more about him elsewhere on the DE-357.com website!
